Hyères Celebrates Dolev Elron

After four days of creative festivities, Dolev Elron took home the Grand Prix du Jury Première Vision at the 39th edition of the Hyères International Festival of Fashion, Photography, and Accessories. An edition “marked by hope and struggle,” as described by its founder Jean-Pierre Blanc.

The fashion world welcomes a new Israeli talent

Rich with over a century of history, the Clos Saint-Bernard, also known as Villa Noailles, hosted the new edition of the Hyères festival last weekend. This event, dedicated to young international creators, was launched nearly four decades ago under the name European Salon of Young Designers. It has helped make Hyères a fashion capital and has become a steppingstone for emerging talents in this field.

The 10 finalists selected by the fashion jury presented their work to a panel of professionals and fashion enthusiasts, hoping to succeed Igor Dyerick. The Belgian designer made a name for himself last year with YESSIR, a surrealist collection reflecting on the role of uniforms in the hospitality industry.

Igor Dyerick, who was the triple winner last year of the Grand Prix du Jury Première Vision, the Prix Le19M des Métiers d’Art awarded by Chanel, and the Prix du Public, has now passed his crown to Dolev Elron.

Following prestigious names like Azzedine Alaïa, John Galliano and last year’s Charles de Vilmorin, Nicolas Di Felice, the creative director of Courrèges since 2020, presented the Grand Prix du Jury Première Vision to this year’s winner.

Dolev Elron, 28, is a graduate of Tel Aviv’s Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art. He now lends his talent to Acne Studios’ women’s collections, after starting out with the Swedish brand as a menswear intern. “Casual Turbulence”, the collection he presented at the Festival, twists the archetypes of men’s fashion using curves and distortions, wave effects with psychedelic overtones, on pockets, buckles and belts.

“I put images into [Photoshop], which creates distortion effects like the turbulence of water. This creates movement, which I used as inspiration for designing my clothes, without necessarily reproducing them identically. It’s a mixture of something technical, artistic and wearable.”

Although it is recognized as the oldest fashion competition for young professionals worldwide, this large-scale event remains synonymous with youth, shining a spotlight each year on the new rising stars of fashion, accessories and photography.

Winners in each discipline are awarded grants to support them in developing their future projects. Première Vision, a partner of the festival since 2011, encourages creativity and highlights the craftsmanship of young fashion professionals. In addition to connecting the competition’s finalists with exhibitors from the Première Vision Paris show for the making of their collections, PV awarded the fashion contest winner a €20,000 creation grant.

“I wanted to thank the Première Vision show for the opportunity to collaborate with its exhibitors. They were welcoming and enthusiastic about the idea of this collaboration, and the fabrics were impeccable. The interactions were very pleasant, and all the exhibitors were very quick with deliveries. This opportunity given to young designers like me is extremely enriching and professionalising. A huge thank you again.”

Alongside these competitions, the event also opens a space for dialogue and inspiration through a rich cultural programme that includes meetings, fashion shows and exhibitions. The public will have until 12th January 2025, to discover the collections of the competition finalists, as well as those of the previous edition’s winners. Nicolas Di Felice, Coco Capitán and Achilles Ion Gabriel, respectively presidents of the fashion, photography and accessories juries, will also exhibit a sample of their work at Villa Noailles until early 2025.
