Why Mountain Plastic? Because It’s There.
After the successful launch of ReTraze Island Plastic, RECYCTEX introduces ReTraze Mountain Plastic—an initiative dedicated to tackling plastic waste in some of the world’s most challenging terrains. This project is driven by a simple yet profound reason: because it’s there—hidden in the valleys, scattered across plateaus, and lingering along mountain trails, where it doesn’t belong.
The Reality of Mountain Plastic Waste
In major cities across China, recycling plastic bottles is efficient. Within just a week, bottles are baled and sent to recycling plants. Clean and high-volume, it often qualifies for food-grade bottle-to-bottle recycling. However, in remote mountain areas, bottles face harsh UV radiation and extreme weather, aging into fragile and brittle quality. These degraded plastics are unsuitable for bottle-to-bottle recycling, requiring innovative solutions.
Recycling at High Altitudes above 3,000 Meters
ReTraze Mountain Plastic focuses on regions like West Sichuan, North Yunnan, Qinghai, and South Gansu, all above 3,000 meters. Plastic waste here threatens both the environment and local livelihoods.
Through partnerships with NGOs, volunteers, and local villagers, and by sponsoring small baling stations, ReTraze collects waste efficiently. Using backhaul logistics, plastics are transported to urban recycling centers for testing, washing, and processing into sustainable materials.
To ensure transparency, ReTraze has implemented a blockchain tracking system, allowing brands and consumers to trace the journey of each recycled product, showcasing the efforts behind every step.
A Positive Impact-Beyond Waste Management
ReTraze Mountain Plastic creates lasting impacts. It provides employment opportunities for communities, restores mountains, grasslands, and rivers by removing plastic waste, and protects livestock from ingesting harmful plastics, safeguarding rural livelihoods.
From Mountain Plastics to Performance Fabric
Less than 60% of mountain-collected bottles can be processed into recycled filament and spun yarn. The rest, based on insulation quality, is used in parkas.
Weaved with ReTraze Mountain Plastic yarn, RECYCTEX had commercial production of technical recycled fabric for ski-wear, outdoor apparel, and parka, transforming waste into resources and protecting both people and the planet.
